My lovely friend Hayley over at Mouse House Creations gave me the extreme pleasure of
allowing me to pattern next her newest PDF pattern-the Women's Caroline Party Dress.
If you remember a few months ago, I made the girl's version of this dress.
There is so much awesomeness to this dress; I'm not sure where to begin.
Let's break it down!
Sizes: 0 to 22
Sleeves: sleeveless, faux cap, 3/4" length, and long sleeves
Dress length: Peplum, above the knee, below the knee, and mid calf
Necklines: high and low
Skirt: gathered or pleated
Difficulty: advanced intermediate
Other specifications:
The pattern is designed for the average height of 5'5".
However, no woman is the same as the next. There are lengthening/shortening lines on the bodice.
There are perfect princess seams resulting in a beautiful fit.
The bodice is fully lined with an invisible zipper.
The skirt can be lined or not.
For my first dress, I did cap sleeves with a lined gathered skirt above the knee.
When sewing for yourself, it is very important to make a bodice muslin.
Meaning, grab some cheap fabric and sew up a fake bodice. No need to install the zipper, just pin in place and test the fit. Do you need to change size or maybe just take in or let out a seam a little bit?
99% of the time, you will need to make adjustments for the pattern to fit your perfectly.
The tutorial is very clear for the intermediate sewist.
Each step is well written with pictures.
Information on how to "get the right fit" is included as well as
a glossary of terms.
There is nothing particularly difficult about this dress, but with the invisible zipper, princess seams, and tailoring necessary, you need to be familiar with techniques.
I love this dress! And more importantly, so does my husband!
