Swoon Bonnie SAL Day 3: Interior

Welcome to day 3 of the Swoon Bonnie sewalong.  We will complete the interior today.

If you are doing the interior slip pockets.  Lay them right sides together.  Sew along the shorter long edge with 1/2" seam allowance.

Open the seam

and press the seam open.

Fold the pieces wrong sides together and press well.

Top stitch down the folded seam.

Matching the bottom raw edges of your pocket piece and one of the interior lower panels, pin and baste around the three raw edges at 1/4" seam allowance.

Make a trifold with your piece and hand press the folds.

When you open, you will see your pockets are in thirds.  I drew a line down my hand pressed folds.  Stitch down those lines.

Interior pocket, optional. On the wrong side of bottom lining panel, measure 2.5" down from the top, draw a 7" x 1/2" rectangle centered along the mid line of the panel.  As we did before, mark 1/2" in from each short end, draw diagonal lines to the corners and a line in the center of the rectangle.

Flip your panel over to the right side and attached the other pocket piece, short end 2" down from the top, centered.  Pin along the very top of the piece and pin the bottom of the pocket down.

Flip your panel over to the wrong side and sew your rectangle.  Cut along the center line and diagonal lines as before. Push your pocket piece to the wrong side of your panel and press very well.

Lay your zipper on the wrong side of the fabric in the center of your rectangle hole.  Tape, pin, or glue the zipper down.

Top stitch the rectangle and zipper.

Flip your panel tot he wrong side.  Take the bottom of the pocket piece (unpin if you pinned it down).
Fold the bottom raw edge of the pocket piece and match with the top raw edge above the zipper.

Pin in the seam allowance.

Fold the top of the lining panel out of the way.  I like to sew so the pocket panel is down and I can see that I'm sewing in the seam allowance.  Sew across the top of the pocket then sew along the two edges of the pocket.  Make sure to not sew through your main lining panel!

Main Zipper Compartment
Take one of the Top Lining pieces.  Along the straight long edge, pin your zipper down.

Sew zipper to top lining piece at 1/4" seam allowance.

Make a sandwich with the top lining piece you just sewed and one of the main exterior panels.
Place the right sides together so the zipper is in the middle.

Make sure everything is lined up well.

Stitch along your previous stitching.
Open and Press the fabrics away from the zipper.  Press very well.

Repeat for the other side of the zipper and the top lining piece.  The once again make a sandwich adding the bottom lining piece. Press well.
It should look like this when you are done.

Open your zipper.

Sew down each side starting at the top, through the zipper to the bottom.  On one side leave a 6" opening for turning. 1/2" seam allowance.
Don't sew along the bottom!
Trim seam allowances.

Find the center bottom of the bottom lining panel.  Place pins to mark.
Just like we did with the exterior, find the 4 centers of the bottom piece.

Right sides together, match up the short sides of the bottom piece with the side seams of the lining.  The longer sides of the bottom piece with the lining panel centers you just placed pins for.
Pin entire bottom piece to the lining panels. Sew 1/2" seam allowance just like the exterior.  Trim seam allowances.

Lining is complete!
