Ali's $154 Room Makeover!

Updating rooms can be very expensive, but it certainly doesn't have to be if you shop right and DIY the hell out of it!

After we moved in, Karl and I painted Ali's room a wonderful light yet bright yellow.

Unfortunately, this is the only  photo I have of her room before.

Ali and I both decided it was time for a big girl upgrade.
First, new lavender paint and new curtains from Lowes.

Second, I used her old curtains and made a bean bag.
This bag o' beans was a biatch to pour into the bag lining.

Pearls everywhere.

The instructions only work if you have 2 sets of hands helping.

Finally got all of those damn things in

just to realize I forgot turn the bag right side out.
 Whatever...

Finished late in the night.

Lastly, the final touches.  We went to Home Goods, picked up some cheap
collage frames and other decor.  Also bought new purple sheets from Target.
Everywhere we went, new lamps were $25+, so I headed to the thrift shop.

Found this ugly lamp with a perfect purple shade for $9.  Taped it off, sprayed with with white paint + primer spray paint.

 Oh yes, much better!

I had this end table from my single days.  I also spray painted it white.

 The final product!

We bought a poster frame and Ali sponge painted banner paper.  Perfect for above her bed and she LOVES having her own art work to look at.

Ali's been pretty down since Daddy is deployed.  Having family photos for her to see helps her understand that Daddy is still home, just away right now.

Bean bag is a hit, making all that frustration and cleaning up beans worth while!

 Cost break down

Paint, rollers, tape from Lowes:  $35
Picture frames, memory board, and bird decor from Home Goods:  $54
Pictures printed from Target:  $3
Bean Bag:  $11 for the bag o beans from Walmart (I already had all the fabric)
New bed linens:  $18 (we had the white comforter)
Spray Paint:  $6 from Walmart
Curtains from Lowes:  $18
Thrift Lamp:  $9

Total: $154

Really not expensive for a complete room re-do.  I made sure to get Ali involved with picking out colors and her room accessories.  Kids need to feel they have some control and this is a perfect situation to let them have control of!

I made the Book Nook bunting while back from left over fabric
and the hubby made the book shelves from cutting up 2x2s and 2x4s.
