Valentine Cupcake Top!

Me again with my 4th Sewing Mama RaeAnna cupcake top.
I truly love this pattern.  It's so versatile.  One pattern that I can get a 1000 different
'looks' out of is always the greatest deal.

Once again, thank you RaeAnna for having me on the Valentine Cupcake Top tour!

It's your lucky week!  You can get the Cupcake Top 20% off with the
code SWEET.
Go buy it HERE.

Today, I have a quick tutorial on how to add a cupcake cut out to the back
of your cupcake top!

Let's get started.
Cut the pattern and the binding.
Cut an additional binding piece 22" long.
You will also need a very small piece of fabric to make a cherry
and a very small piece of double sided fusible webbing.

1.  Print out Cupcake template.
I made this for size 2T, but you would increase/decrease by a few
percentages for a different size.

2.  Cut out all your pattern pieces. See next step if you want short sleeves.
It's been in the 70s here already, so I opted for short sleeves.
If you want short sleeves as well, just fold up your sleeve piece to the length you desire.
I traced the new size on scrap paper I pulled out of the trash.  Yikes, I just admitted to that. The paper was laying on top in the trash...

Take your back piece (double check it is the back!)
Center the cupcake cut out on the fold.

Trace and cut or just cut out around the template.

Take your extra binding.  With right sides together, pin binding around cupcake.

Follow along all curves of the cupcake.  It will look like a jumbled mess.
Folder over the starting side by 1/2".

Overlap the end of the binding with the beginning.  Fold end of binding over 1/2".
Cut off any extra binding.

If your binding curls, pin the outer side out of the way.

Start sewing binding on with 3/8" seam allowance.
On the curves of the icing, make sure you exaggerate the dips.  Otherwise, it will not show up when we turn the binding.

Wrong side of shirt up, pull the binding towards opening.

Fold raw end of binding over, matching with shirt raw edge.

Fold the binding over again, covering the stitching you made when you sewed the binding on.
Pin well.

Continue folding binding over around the entire cupcake cut out.
Pin especially well on the icing.

Wrong side.

Right side.

Working on the right side, sew close to shirt/binding seam, making sure to catch the binding on the wrong side.

What your cupcake will look like.

Cut a small circle out of fabric and out of the fusible webbing.

Peel one side of the fusible webbing off and stick to the wrong side of the cherry.

Peel the paper off from the fusible webbing and stick the cherry on the top of your cupcake.

Using a wide (5) and short (0.5) zig zag stitch, stitch your cherry on.

Sew the rest of your shirt together by following the instructions in the pattern.

Ta-Da!
*I felt my original cupcake template was a bit large.  The template linked above is much smaller than the one I used for this shirt.
Feel free to enlarge/shrink the template to your desire.
None the less!  I love this cupcake shirt and I think she does too!

She was being a pill during photos.
